About

We can change our media and put the public interest before corporate profits.

The airwaves belong to the public, but powerful media companies have the ear of the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC needs to hear from the rest of us.

Together we can reverse decades of harmful policies that have given massive media companies far too much power at the expense of the local news and information our communities need.

Broadcasters use our airwaves for free — and in return are supposed to provide programming that fulfills community needs.

But broadcasters have stopped holding up their end of the bargain. And the situation is only getting worse. In recent years the media giants have shuttered newsrooms, laid off journalists and aired cookie-cutter programming often produced by their former competitors.

The FCC has just started to review its media ownership rules. These rules need to be strengthened to make room for more local ownership, increased competition and greater opportunities for women and people of color to own media outlets.

We need media for communities, not corporations. But the FCC won’t act in the public’s interest if we remain silent.

Take action and join us today.
